Nature at your fingertips in the Val d’Aran!
Val d’Aran
Val d’Aran is located on the border with France and has an Atlantic climate, making it a unique destination for local and international holiday-seekers. Here you’ll find the highest mountain peaks in the Catalan Pyrenees and you can catch nature in all its splendid beauty, from the abundant snowfalls to the roaring rivers, centenary trees and explosion of colours in spring and autumn. This is the ideal holiday spot for summer and winter sport lovers alike, or anyone who enjoys fine food and culture.
Arties
The valley of the Valarties River, where Arties is situated, is one of the gateways to the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park.
Surrounding the valley are emblematic mountains such as Montardo, Besiberri Nord, Tumeneja, Punta d’Harlé, Pa de Sucre and Malh de Rius, as well as high-altitude mountain lakes in Mar-Rius, Ribereta-Montcasau and Cap de Port-Restanca.
The mountains and valleys can be explored via a multitude of trails of varying difficulty. We would be delighted to provide further information and advice!
From Arties, follow the pleasant and easy path to the town of Garós. Alternately, there is a very difficult route that goes through Salardú and Prüedo. The route is 32 km long and has a change in elevation of 800m.
Alternately, pamper your body and mind with a relaxing soak in the natural sulphur hot springs, located just 5 minutes from the hotel. Relax and let yourself be transported by a world of sensations!
Val d’Aran is known for its rich heritage. Next to the Hotel Besiberri in Arties is the Santa María church, a characteristic example of Lombard Romanesque architecture that still sports altarpieces painted in Gothic style and frescoes dating back to the 15th century. Across the road is the San Joan, church, today a museum, as well as the houses of Ço de Paulet and Portolà.
Apart from hiking, the valley also offers many nature and adventure sports such as rafting, riverboarding, canyoning, horseback riding, via ferratas, mountain biking, 4×4 routes and more.
When winter rolls around, snow sports become the main attraction: skiing, heliskiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling… The most famous, of course, is the Baqueira Beret ski resort, one of the top ski areas in the Pyrenees with endless slopes and excellent snow cover. Baqueira Beret offers a range of winter activities and an increasingly large selection of summer activities.
Those hankering for a traditional experience can go fishing or collect mushrooms in the rivers and forests. The Aran-Park also houses a collection of local animals that you can visit. Aran-Park.
